Gorgeous rosey apricot color in the glass with star-bright reflective translucence. Immediate flood of mingled floral and fruit aromas--apricots, cantaloupe, and nutty, rye whiskey. I could appreciate the aromas of this beauty for minutes without taking a sip! But the alluring nose does not dissapoint on the palate. Medium-full body the wine enters lush and ripe with a sweet sensation on the palate of tropical juicy fruit that finishes completely dry with tannins that remind one of biting down on Asian pear skins or the last swallow of Chamomile tea. The flavors mid-palate are delicious repeats of the aromas with addition of blood orange, wild strawberry, hints of fennel and bitter almond. It may be a bit contrite to say, but La Stoppa Ageno is indeed a show stopper. One of the most delicious wines we have tasted in 2020. Certified organic farming practices, no added sulfur. Fermented on the skins for 4 or so months then transfered to large Slavonian oak botti for a year and at least 2 more years in bottle before release. Stunning wine made from the co-planted indigenous varieties of 90% Malvasia and 10% Ortruga and Trebbiano Toscano.
